Acute re-admission rate
Unplanned readmissions will usually present to emergency departments, and may result in admission to hospital for further treatment. This puts pressure on emergency departments and inpatient hospital capacity, efficiency and productivity.
An unplanned acute hospital readmission may often (though not always) occur as a result of the care provided to the patient by the health system. Reducing unplanned acute admissions can therefore be interpreted as an indication of improving quality of acute care, in the hospital and/or the community, ensuring that people receive better health and disability
