 Thrombolysis services provided at all facilities with a CT scanner
 Increased referrals for carotid endarterectomy (TIA)
 Māori/Pacific Stroke work force
What are the steps to achieving the objective?
1. E-referral (via BPAC) from Stroke pathways of care (Map of Medicine, BayNav) are established
2. Follow up all TIA patients in clinic within 8 weeks of discharge from hospital
3. Initiatives to improve access to stroke and TIA services for Māori and Pacific peoples are
developed.
4. Thrombolysis service. Advocate for 24 hour services where there is a CT scanner. Where
there is a CT scanner the region will actively provide clinical support to thrombolysis
clinicians to facilitate a thrombolysis service. Using the National Thrombolysis Protocol
5. Clot retrieval. Actively participate in the national thrombectomy working group
6. Monitor (and participate in a second national pilot, if possible) the progress of the national
Telestroke pilot to support DHB clinicians with small numbers of stroke presentations for
thrombolysis
7. Explore ways to increase Māori and Pacific workforce participating in Stroke services,
particularly Allied Health workforce
