Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery
The Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery unit provides a unique combination of cardiac, thoracic
and vascular procedures in the one specialty area.
Cardiothoracic
The Cardiothoracic Surgery Service provides secondary / tertiary inpatient and outpatient services to the
Midland region, with the exception of paediatric cardiac surgery. There are approximately 700 cases per
year. Cardiac Surgery holds a quarterly audit meeting where registrars present both cardiac and thoracic
cases.
There are fortnightly thoracic cases scheduled, which include conditions of the chest, oesophagus, lungs
and mediastinum. These areas of practice may involve congenital, infective, degenerative, metabolic and
neoplastic conditions.
